AHHSWEHO – West Hollywood, CA
Dina Browner rose to acclaim as the inspiration behind the character Nancy Botwin on the show “Weeds,” but her real-life story is in many ways stranger than fiction. In 2003, she and a physician from San Francisco opened Southern California’s first doctor’s office that provided medical cannabis prescriptions. A couple of years later, she helped Snoop Dogg obtain his first cannabis recommendation. Snoop, perhaps inadvertently, returned the favor by bestowing on “Dr. Dina” the moniker — and credentials — that would help catapult her into her well-deserved position as the reigning “queen of SoCal cannabis.”
As one of the most recognizable figures in the cannabis landscape, she wears many hats: consultant, entrepreneur, advocate, philanthropist. All accurate labels, yet they fail to evoke the formidable amalgam of compassion, acumen and magnetism that have made Dr. Dina so successful in her dynamic career and public life.
As one of only four “officially permitted medical and adult-use marijuana dispensaries allowed to operate in the city of West Hollywood,” AHHSWEHO has been collecting accolades at a whirlwind pace. High Times has consistently ranked AHHSWEHO as one the best dispensaries in Southern California, and LA Weekly named the shop “Best Dispensary” in 2013. The shop has also run the gamut at High Times cannabis cups, raking in awards for a range of products including concentrates, edibles and glass smoking “tips.”
AHHSWEHO is flourishing in the newly legalized recreational marketplace, but Dr. Dina and company are never content to rest on past laurels. They’ve now set their sights on opening a “consumption lounge,” where patrons can purchase cannabis products and enjoy them in a comfortable environment. While it’s unclear how soon these lounges could open their doors, we will be following AHHSWEHO’s plans with eager anticipation.
