Apex Cannabis – Spokane, WA

Co-founded by husband-and-wife duo Troy and Stacey Peterson, Apex Cannabis was born out of hard work and a push for cannabis education. Prior, the two owned a heavy equipment rental business, but after selling that company they needed a new direction. Tragically, both of the Petersons’ fathers were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As a result, cannabis entered their lives as a way to treat the resulting pain and suffering during cancer treatment. While Troy Peterson’s father sadly passed, Stacey Peterson’s recently celebrated his seventh year since undergoing treatment. Today, an uplifting spirit permeates their shop.

The Place

The Petersons opened their first stores in Moses Lake and Otis Orchards in 2016, and in 2018 finished their massive flagship location in Spokane near Gonzaga University, where Stacey Peterson went to school. Boasting 4,500 square feet between the recreational dispensary, which sells over 1,000 different cannabis products, and adjacent paraphernalia shop, which sells hemp-based CBD and pipes, among other accouterments, Spokane’s Apex Cannabis is the largest retailer in Eastern Washington, with a staff that works to educate consumers about product capabilities and usage, as well as provide the highest quality products possible.

The Culture

Because the Petersons entered the cannabis world through the lens of medical marijuana, they bring a heartfelt, positive sensibility to their business. “When my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, I knew nothing about cannabis,” shares Stacey Peterson. “I would walk into shops and just say, ‘What do I do?’ I had to learn so much.” As a result, she and her husband have curated their shops to be open to newcomers and seasoned cannabis customers alike, with consultation tables, educated staff and hundreds of products on their shelves.
