The Bakeréé can be perfectly described in one word: professional. From the eye-catching exterior to the tidy cannabis displays, The Bakeréé has been meticulously put together to provide top-of-the-line service. “We’re always interested in providing a quality experience,” affirms co-owner Ryan Campbell, who has been in the cannabis industry for nearly a decade. Born during the medical cannabis days, The Bakeréé made the switch to recreational but made it their mission to maintain the quality they were known for in their previous incarnation.
“It’s about getting people what they need,” emphasizes Alex Shreeve, Head of Procurement. “We find out what people love and send them home with the right thing.” Communication with clients and budtenders is the key to how Shreeve decides on what products will join their carefully curated inventory. The team takes input from customers on strains or brands they like, while budtenders sample products and discuss the merits of each one they try. As Campbell explains, “Everybody touches every product, either through first-hand knowledge in-person, or through their peers’ [advice].” This method ensures their budtenders are educated on both the products on the shelves and potential new products.
The Bakeréé is selective about the people they bring on board, preferring individuals who are as passionate about educating the customer as they are selling them good cannabis. There is no organized training system for budtenders, as Campbell prefers a more organic, natural relationship to develop with clients. “We want customers leaving more informed, and returning with those same standards to challenge us,” asserts Campbell. His approach has led to The Bakeréé being known for exposing lesser-known brands to the general market. With plans to eventually expand, The Bakeréé will be a powerful contender in the cannabis industry for years to come.
