Cannabis City – Seattle, WA
Cannabis City has been an icon in the legal cannabis movement since opening back in 2014, and they’re pushing boundaries to this day. Located south of Seattle’s downtown core, Cannabis City is a professional retail space with a vast selection of goods, armed with a well-trained staff ready to answer any question thrown their way. Each budtender goes through a one-on-one training program with Rachael Brower, Cannabis City’s Customer Service Lead, to assure consistency and accuracy in helping customers find the right product.
Owner, CEO and Doctor of Nursing Practice James Lathrop intends to slowly but surely continue growing the Cannabis City brand, with plans to branch out into different avenues of the cannabis industry. “If you’re creative and innovative, with a solid brand to work with, you can stay relevant and keep growing,” advises Dr. Lathrop. Cannabis City recently expanded to include Seattle Gear, a store oriented toward cannabis merchandise currently prohibited in I-502 stores; Dr. Lathrop had the idea for a couple years before finally managing to bring it to fruition.
Dr. Lathrop refers to his latest endeavor as a “little bit of civil disobedience, similar to Hempfest.” He commissioned an outdoor space available to the public to consume cannabis on the property—the first of its kind in the state. While technically violating the city’s public consumption laws, Dr. Lathrop isn’t worried about getting any tickets on the privately-owned patio. This is just an initial move for Cannabis City, however. With dreams of opening a smoking club, Dr. Lathrop hopes that “someday, an expansion will happen—but for now, it’s good to concentrate on each step.”
