Curaleaf – Portland, OR
Curaleaf (formerly Spark Dispensary) is located in Portland’s historic and walkable Beaumont-Wilshire neighborhood — more specifically, in the building that formerly housed the Fremont Ridge (R.I.P.). The structure has undergone some identity changes over the years, but confidently emerged as Curaleaf in the fall of 2018. The enclosed waiting area features comfy chairs and beautiful stained wood. Better, the final destination where all the goods are waiting is a bright, beautiful, open zone. I like that the shop is selective about which products they carry; I could focus on the products and enjoy my experience rather than feel overwhelmed by too many options. The shop is amazing, but there’s also the parking — yes, there is parking! Or if you want to get some exercise, you can simply walk your way around Beaumont Village.
Curaleaf began with a medical mission: How can cannabis help people? They still apply that question to recreational customers … How can cannabis help people relax, have fun, chill out? That’s where Curaleaf’s staff of hand-picked budtenders come in. They can personally vouch and attest for their products, whether you’re looking for a medicinal edible to help you sleep or something to help your nerves on a flight. If you’re visiting this beautiful state for the first time or are a neighborhood regular wanting a joint to smoke, Curaleaf has you covered; pre-rolls, vape pens, flower, edibles, concentrates, and all from trusted brands with stellar reputations.
Curaleaf’s East Coast founders began with medical dispensaries in Maine in 2010, followed by dispensaries in Massachusetts four years later. Today there are 35 Curaleaf dispensaries nationwide, with Portland being the first West Coast dispensary! Take that Seattle, SF and LA! Ahem … These businesses were spurred by an interest in giving people a right to treat PTSD, epilepsy and pain, among other ailments, using cannabis as a healthy alternative to pharmaceuticals. The goal of the business was strictly mission-based, and the founders remain highly in tune to that mission, hiring budtenders and managers who, in turn, educate their customers.
