DogHouse Farms – OR
DogHouse Farms has been turning out some of Oregon’s most sought-after strains for over three years as a rec farm, with runner-up recreational wins in the 2016 DOPE Cup for their Starkiller (“Most Potent Flower,” “Best Hybrid Flower”) and SFV OG Kush (“Best Sativa-Dominant Flower”) strains. When we arrived at the garden, Head Grower Sergio was busy on the BBQ getting an amazing lunch ready for the work crew—a nice introduction of how this farm works as a team.
The farm is split up between two different warehouses that keep the veg and flower cycles separate. John Hednal, AKA Hound Dog, Owner of DogHouse, told me the farm is always “playing with the formula,” trying to increase yields while maintaining top-quality flower. Sustainability is always the holy grail; they’re currently testing six different soil types with their strains to see what improvements can be made, and dedicated two grow rooms to a new LED light company trying to break into the industry. “The DogHouse name is representative of all the employees—it’s not just about me,” remarks Hednal. “It takes an incredible effort by all my crew to make this thing work. Currently we have a crew of ten here, with another site operating in Washington state that employs 20 more hands.”
The flower room was quite impressive, and we saw their popular Scooby Snacks strain close to harvest, at the peak of her flavor and potency. Not only do they grow some amazing flower, DogHouse Farms is the current home of seed and strain producer Homegrown Natural Wonders, makers of the famous Dr. Who strain! Check out DogHouse Farms and see why they’re always coming out on top of the dog pile at your local dispensary.
