Electric Lettuce – Portland, OR
“A place where everyone feels at home.” That’s how Cambria, Electric Lettuce Brand Director, described their third location, which opened on 4/20 last year. The house is colorfully decorated with neon signs that highlight some of the more colorful slang terms for cannabis used over the decades, all overseen by two neon eyes that gaze lazily over the Lloyd District neighborhood. Inside, the home has kept a lot of its original charm. After check-in you’re invited to enter the family room area, decorated with vintage cannabis paraphernalia and other non-cannabis related knick-knacks from the ‘60s and ‘70s, many donated by regular customers. It was a blast from the past, and the fond memories associated with certain items still hang vividly in my mind.
The house was originally the Electric Lettuce central office while the company worked on expanding their market presence. As the time came for their second location, they decided to embrace the house’s unique structure, painting a beautiful mural on its outside to make the place more welcoming to the canna-curious. Inside, the art has a definite ‘70s zine feel, and comic panels from local artist Tim Lahan are prominently displayed. “We want people to really feel nostalgic when they walk into this place,” Cambria told me. “We want them to feel like they can put on a record and be transported back to the glory days.”
Looking at all the curated top-shelf products, you’d think you were looking at the winners list from last year’s DOPE Cup! All the top brands in flower, vapes, extracts and cartridges are represented, as well as a few exclusive offerings made just for Electric Lettuce customers. The custom-grown flower from Prūf Cultivar I reviewed in this issue is one such item, as well as a few harder-to-find throwback strains. If you’re looking for a unique shopping experience while in NE Portland, take a little trip back in time at Electric Lettuce. They told me they’re close to opening a fourth location (they have another Portland store, as well as an Oregon City joint) that should be opening in Beaverton soon!
