The Green Solution
DOPE Magazine is officially the first media group ever allowed to tour The Green Solution research and development facility. It’s truly mind blowing to see the amount of work that goes into a product long before it’s on the shelf and ready for customer consumption. This facility was strictly made for genetic research and strain breeding, so it was a unique opportunity to see the entire process. From the cloning station to the pollination tents to the various flowering rooms, it was such a treat to witness just how much goes into selecting a strain for cultivation.
Our tour was led by Kevin Sullivan, the breeding and genetics specialist for The Green Solution. Sullivan has a degree in horticulture and chooses which strains end up going into store production—pretty cool gig, right? “The real reward is when we hear that one of our creations is someone’s new favorite strain,” Kevin says. As one of the most well-known and most awarded cannabis companies in Colorado, it should come as no surprise that they’ve managed to expand to 15 locations in Denver and the surrounding area. Kevin notes that “not a single day goes by that we are not counting our blessings. We all love being a part of this creation process, because we get to see the excitement on others’ faces as they first lay eyes on a brand-new strain. Winning an award or two along the way is just the icing on the cake.”
Their Purple Punch, a handful of new Maple Leaf crosses and a few high-CBD strains jumped out at me on our tour with their vibrant, pungent skunkiness. Since these plants are being bred for R&D, the facility grows them much quicker than your average plant to ensure tests for quality, yield and potency can begin as soon as possible—basically anything that makes the plant worth cultivating for store distribution. As Kevin explained, “This process could take up to two years! We’ve seen thousands of unique individual [strains] go by the wayside in search of a diamond in the rough.”
