Herbarium – West Hollywood, CA
Herbarium was officially founded on April 20, 2018, but before that the company faced various changes and legal disputes. Through that tumult, the store managed to maintain a dedicated clientele. Herbarium’s founder, Adie Meiri, recalled the time an elderly patient walked in and asked, “Is this Herbarium? Are you guys back?” Apparently, Herbarium had been a “life-saver” for her during her struggle with chemotherapy. This experience showed Meiri that their name held currency and convinced him to keep it, due to brand recognition and the reputation for excellence and compassion they’d cultivated.
Herbarium is the “only location within a four-mile radius” with licensing, allowing for total vertical integration. Hence, they have a cultivation facility that fills their shelves with top-quality flower grown in-house. They also stock products from third-party vendors, including Connected Cannabis, AlienLabs and Flow Kana. Their edibles selection includes offerings from Breez and Kiva, and you’re likely to find concentrates from Kingpen and Friendly Farms on any given day. While they do not currently manufacture edibles or concentrates, Herbarium’s goal is to one day be known as the “Willy Wonka Factory for cannabis,” according to Meiri.
Herbarium’s motto, “Educate. Advocate. Elevate.” is more than just a slogan — it’s a philosophy that informs every aspect of the store’s operation. The staff place a tremendous focus on educating customers, whether about the law, the medical applications of specific products or improving a recreational user’s experience. They also believe adults should be able to use cannabis products free from legal repercussions or judgment; these two aims are integral in their ultimate mission to elevate the “experience of cannabis to assure quality, consistency, selection and service.”
