In The Flow – Boulder, CO
In The Flow is owned and operated by longtime friends Josh Mortenson, Mike Diaz, both cultivators, and their wives Bonnie Bahlmann and Tori Sherman — business operations manager and director of sales, respectively. Originally from the East Coast, all four creators have been established in Boulder since the mid-‘90s. They saw an opportunity with the passing of Amendment 64 and decided to risk everything to create a new career and lifestyle for their families. Without any outsourced funding, they created In The Flow from the ground-up, and have been cultivating some of the finest flower in the state for the last four years. Their wholesale cannabis is available recreationally in about 34 dispensaries throughout Colorado.
I had the opportunity to visit In The Flow’s newer cultivation facility located in East Boulder. Owners Mortenson and Diaz both have extensive experience in construction, which gives them the unique benefit of being able to troubleshoot anything electrical or H-VAC related on their own. If something goes wrong in the garden, they can personally tend to it immediately, an option that most growers aren’t usually as lucky to have. Everyone at In The Flow brings a different skill set to the table, and their turnover rate for employees is basically nonexistent. Once you become a part of the team, you’re considered family. Mark told me it is for them to create a thriving and happy working environment for their employees because they don’t want any negative energy around the plants.
I have personally reviewed flower from In The Flow in the past, and so I knew that seeing their garden first hand was going to be a special treat. In my opinion, the finished product from In The Flow takes the term “bag appeal” to a whole new level — each bud is large, dense and trimmed to perfection. There is no “automated” feature in their garden, each plant is hand-tended to daily and individually netted, a method that gives them the ability to truly give each plant the attention it deserves. The star of the show at In The Flow is “Chemmy Jones,” a cross between Chemdog and Casey Jones. It produces spectacular flower and has never tested below 30 percent THC. Another strain that caught my nose’s attention was the “Dankey Kong,” a cross between Kong and Biodiesel which emits an insane aroma of funky gasoline. My favorite strain from the tour was “Fine Wine,” a cross of Grape Stompet (Stomper) and Sour Diesel that literally smelled like a glass of red wine.
“In The Flow” is a psychological term, a phrase which means living in the present moment with a focused state of mind. Similar to how an Octopus can alter its appearance and adjust to the current within seconds, this is the mindset that the team from In The Flow brings to their garden every single day.
