Moe Greens – San Francisco, CA

Moe Greens evokes a classic San Francisco vibe circa the late 1950s or early 1960s. When I step to the door, vintage Terrazzo floors emblazoned with the store’s namesake invite me in with a warm welcome. Sputnik-fashion light fixtures illuminate gold and green rooms within the store’s interior. Moe Greens opened its doors on January 17, 2019, and in the short time since then have already become a favorite lounge. Part of the Grass Roots and Barbary Coast family of shops, these folks have been in the cannabis industry since the medical days and are constantly evolving their hospitality services. Mid-Market Street houses a melting pot of socioeconomic differences, and native San Franciscan CEO Nate Haas wants to keep it that way — he describes the city as a beacon for counterculture, coolness and innovation. Moe Greens also works to strengthen underserved communities through supporting youth groups like United Playaz – a violence prevention organization.

I brought my dad to Moe Greens and learned it’s everything my family seeks out in a lounge. They provide pristine glass pipes, water pipes and dab rigs; a suite of toker supplies sits on every table. The future-forward booths are set up with power charging stations. There are three rooms for consumption: The Playground, The Vault and The High Roller Room. The Playground is meant for vaporizing and minimal smoke so those returning to work remain discreet. If you’re ready to burn herb, head over to The High Roller Room. I found myself making quick friends at The Vault dab bar.

Honorably, their menu includes tax. Moe Greens’s selection features local products supporting primarily Northern California brands. “The health of the cannabis industry up North is kind of the lifeline to the whole state,” says Haas. Keeping health at the forefront of the shop’s selection is paramount due to the needs of customers. “If you are having pain because of an autoimmune deficiency or whatever your ailment is we want to provide you with something that is safe, clean and comfortable that will help you.” Before I left Moe Greens, I stepped into The Vault to find three dabbers enjoying Beezle Extracts — we swapped flavors for a buzzing Beezle party.

Ashleigh Castro

Ashleigh Castro is a New York seed grown in the California sunshine. A photographer by nature, she developed while capturing peace rallies in San Francisco and snapping shots of musicians. She started at DOPE taking photos for DOPE Magazine as it launched in Northern California in 2015. Aesthetically, her favorite medium to shoot in is film such as 35mm and medium format. Since she studied journalism, she put her DOPEn to the paper and started writing stories about healing family through cannabis, sustainably sourced edibles and consciously created local products. Having developed obscure food allergies caused by histamine intolerance, she applies cannabis to alleviate the symptoms of chronic pain, inflammation and the anxieties surrounding food intolerance. Now managing the NorCal office as well as the area’s content, you can find her on the scene with the DOPE squad or roller skating in the Bay Area’s scenic spots. Her greatest joy working at DOPE is being able to help found a Dream Team of talent and style.
