Pakalolo – Portland, OR
A prominent Portland craftsman home turned dispensary located on Southeast 15th and Holgate; Pakalolo is embellished with sparkly green lights and lush bamboo flanking the entrance. Even better are the five parking spots behind the building, exclusively for visitors. During my visit, I encountered Director of Marketing and Store Manager “Big Bob” and Budtender Adam Nungaray, who (electronically) lit the in-store fireplace and gave me the grand tour of the cozy front room cannabis shop. It’s an approachable atmosphere, easy to navigate and not overwhelming at all. The front door opens directly to the shop where welcoming budtenders are eager to answer your cannabis questions, and if they don’t know the answer to your question, they won’t make one up, they will investigate with you online. I like that kind of upfront honesty.
The flower and products Pakalolo chooses to sell are carefully curated. Benson Elvis flower is prominent in the shop as well is Meraki Gardens flower and Meraki pre-rolls. Pakalolo also features their own cannabis from Pug Hill Farms, and after purchasing some of their Vista Sativa hybrid for myself, I can say it was divine — smooth, tasty, cough-free and wonderfully aromatic. I see farm and strain reviews in my future! For those of us vegetarians and vegans out there, Wana Vegan Sour Gummies are also a hot item, coming in Indica, Sativa and Hybrid varieties and fun flavors like mango, strawberry lemonade and watermelon.
Adrienne Garcia and Justin Riggs are one of my favorite things to write about … a successful cannabis love story! In 2013 Riggs was living in Maui, where Garcia was vacationing, and a hankering for cannabis fatefully brought the two together. In 2015, Riggs moved to Portland to be with Garcia, and together they opened their medical dispensary, which is now recreational. In 2018 they started their outdoor grow, Pug Hill Farms, near Jacksonville in Southern Oregon. I would advise anyone who loves cannabis and pugs to follow them on Instagram, @pughillfarms. You’ll see the most adorable photos and videos of their adorable pug Peaugee, all around their breathtaking outdoor grow where cannabis is grown in the dirt, under the sun.
Pakalolo pays you for shopping. Pick up a punch card on your first visit and after 10 purchases receive 20 percent off the total on your 11th trip.
They also have unadvertised daily specials, just ask one of their awesome budtenders.
Pakalolo is slang for weed or “crazy grass” in Hawaiian.
