Ruckus Recreational – Seattle, WA
Ruckus Recreational is a quaint and tiny shop located across from a tattoo studio in one of Seattle’s most adored neighborhoods, Ballard. Walking in feels less like entering a “Starbucks of Pot,” and more like what a medical patient would have experienced back in say 2012. The small size of the shop can be deceiving, but after a thorough glance at the beautiful wood and glass cases that hold inventory, it becomes clear that the selection at Ruckus is extremely well thought out. With a small staff of less than 20 split between Ballard and their flagship store on Capitol Hill, Ruckus Recreational is providing an exceptional experience in purchasing cannabis at an exceptional price.
Ruckus Recreational is owned and operated by Sam Burke who got the initial kick to apply for a license from his daughter when she saw the recreational lottery come up. With a wink and a laugh, Burke told DOPE that his initial experience with cannabis dates back to the ‘60s and with a law degree and former career in the finance sector, he saw an opportunity and made the decision to apply. Burke was awarded the 10th license in the state but was impeded from opening up shop by a bogus arcade set up by one of his competitors. Although Burke would freely advise anyone to Google the story, it hasn’t seemed to stop his stride one bit, and he knows it.
One of the unique offerings that Ruckus provides is a selection of Clean Green Certified product. If you’re unfamiliar; legally, the term “organic” cannot be applied to cannabis because it is federally regulated. The Clean Green Certified program was created in 2004 to regulate the “organic” cannabis market. Burke believes in access to clean and safe cannabis so much that he went out and snagged Clean Green’s Washington State inspector as his purchaser at Ruckus. Yup, you read that right … the Clean Green inspector for Washington State, Bill Eddy, sets the menu at Ruckus. Customers can rest assured that even if the product they are picking up isn’t Clean Green Certified, it’s suitable for one of the most stringent cannabis enthusiasts the state knows.
