Serra Downtown – Portland, OR
Last month when I popped into Serra Downtown to pick up the phenomenal Astral Works by Prūf Cultivar, I was instantly impressed with the location. I hit up Serra’s Marketing Director, Chasidy, to give us a more in-depth tour. Serra Downtown opened in July 2016, just off the waterfront in Portland’s bustling downtown. Walking into the lobby, you’re greeted by a bright, modern-feeling space. It reminded me of a few of the area’s art galleries. After a quick ID check, we were moved into the main showroom.
Chasidy told us that the dispensary is meant to evoke an artistic atmosphere; an open, light-filled environment that invites newcomers to explore the recreational market at their own pace. Customers are a healthy mix of tourists exploring the city to business execs looking to boost their creativity for a big meeting. The modern display cases are meant to remind you of greenhouses—after all, I discovered that serra is actually Italian for “greenhouse.” Clever!
They have a full lineup of edibles available, but their house chocolates (in collaboration with Woodblock Chocolate) are truly something special. When they’re shopping for chocolate, they try and purchase entire lots at a time, which ensures no one will be able to match its flavor profile. The flower they use is entirely sourced from Prūf Cultivar, their in-house grower headed by Jeremy Plumb, ensuring Serra is in 100 percent control of their product from soil to sale.
The flower at Serra is displayed a little differently than other dispensaries. Instead of the traditional indica, sativa and hybrid labels, they’ve decided to list strains with six options: Relaxed, Focused, Creative, Happy, Energetic or Relief. Their guide lets you decide what type of cannabis experience you’re looking for. The cards can also act as a personal journal after you use your products, helping document your experience with the strain. Next time you’re in the downtown area, I highly recommend you stop by Serra and enjoy the elevated experience of shopping in this artisanal cannabis gallery!
