State of Euphoria: Las Vegas’ First Medical Dispensary Goes Recreational

The Place

Euphoria is located in the southeastern suburbs of Las Vegas, in a strip mall that also contains a dentist and a Japanese restaurant. As such, Euphoria tends to serve a more local clientele. The shop itself is relatively minimal, dominated by blonde wood and well-polished tile. A waiting room with two check-in windows and a half-dozen chairs leads to a sales room with two enormous glass cases full of products. However, Euphoria is in the process of expanding into an adjacent space, and will soon double in size. “A lot more room,” says Darlene Purdy, Managing Director of Euphoria Wellness, nodding at the full waiting area.

The Product

The store may be small, but the selection is more than adequate, with a wide range of products. “Flower is still the most popular. Edibles are popular for new rec people because maybe they’ve never tried it before; it’s something new,” explains Purdy. “We also have one of the largest arrays of shatter in town.” Still, Euphoria sells more flower than anything else: “Summa is our cultivation. It’s definitely the most popular, since we can offer it at a discounted value,” says Purdy, adding that Mother’s Milk is their most popular strain, an indica-dominant hybrid. Euphoria also sticks to its medical roots by offering a number of CBD products, including disposable vape pens and even products for pets.

The History

Euphoria Wellness was the first medical marijuana dispensary in the Las Vegas area, opening its doors on August 24, 2015, to a line of eager patients. Purdy notes that the shop initially didn’t carry many different strains, and “when we started, we had no edibles, it took about six months for edibles to come on the market.” Nearly two years later, at midnight on July 1, 2017, Euphoria saw another line at their door as they began serving recreational customers for the first time. Before recreational weed, “we saw maybe about 10 patients per hour,” says Purdy, noting that the first rec weekend saw about three times that number of customers. “It’s busier than we had projected.”
