Telegraph Health Center (THC) – Oakland, CA
Full disclosure that THC is my friendly neighborhood dispensary. Located just north of downtown in the newly-dubbed KONO district, Telegraph Health Center (THC) brims with the culture and energy I love about Oakland. Housed in a 100-year-old historic landmark that used to be a chapel and monastery, there are wide, vaulted ceilings with visible rafters; the interior sports a calming cream palette and dark, warm wood, evoking the feeling of stepping into a space that isn’t just another store to sell you weed, but a space meant to make you feel safe and empowered.
The security guards always greet me with a series of fist bumps, even when I’m just walking by the shop with no plans to enter the store. The front desk staff is warm and welcoming, and the budtenders are beyond knowledgeable, showing the same zeal and passion for their products I hold as a consumer. I’ve gotten to know a number of their employees over my years as a patient here, and I’m confident I’ll always get a great recommendation on some fire products if I’m feeling a bit indecisive.
Each station has its own display of crystal-encrusted flower, organized in a brilliantly concise graph arrangement with a continuum from pure indica to pure sativa on the x-axis and price aligned on the y. You can visually peruse THC’s entire flower selection before making a decision to take a whiff of each tasty, pungent aroma. I’d also argue that THC has one of the best (if not the best) selections of compassionately-priced terpy sugars and powerful shatters this side of the bay, ranging between $30 and $45 a gram. There’s even a generous rewards point system offering free herb or cash reductions, frequent twofers, freebie deals and deep discounts, as well as a stacked schedule of vendor demos with similar benefits. Even if I didn’t live a mere two blocks away, THC would still be my favorite dispensary in the East Bay.
