The Clinic – Colorado
The Clinic is one of the most awarded cannabis companies in Colorado, and I couldn’t have been more excited to meet the growers and tour their garden. Josh Malman, The Clinic’s Grow Operations Manager, guided our visit. Malman and his team at The Clinic won first place for Yield (1474.9 grams) and Flavor at the 2017 Medical Grow-Off, a revered competition for growers all over the state of Colorado. The mystery strain was Green Dream Cannabis’ Scroopy Noopers, a cross between Girl Scout Cookies and Stardawg (YUM!). The Clinic also hosts an annual charity golf tournament; I went last year and had the time of my life. It was their eighth annual event, and they raised over $100,000 for MS research.
We were asked to wear protective coats and shoe covers as not to bring any contaminants into the garden with us. The flowering room was absolutely booming. Aisle after aisle of beautiful, vibrant, robust cannabis. The plants are on raised beds, so we had to climb up ladders in order to take in the whole room! The view from the top was something else—so many fat, chunky colas. I love that they had LED lights in the vegetation room. LEDs use less energy than normal light bulbs and do not emit as much heat, meaning they don’t have to use as much power to keep the room cool. Ten points to The Clinic for that smart, sustainable move!
I went into the garden with high expectations and was not disappointed. Other than some pest predators, they keep plant treatment to a minimum. We made our way from strain to strain, sniffing and observing as much as we could. Their Panama Punch (a house classic) was one of my favorites. It smelled sweet and creamy, almost like a smoothie. Josh explained that one of their primary focuses at the moment is cultivating strains based on concentrate potential. Dabs and oils are a popular commodity these days, and The Clinic is turning most of their flower into concentrates to keep up with demand.
