The Green Nugget – Spokane, WA
The Green Nugget opened in 2015 but in 2018 moved to a larger location — 3,500 square feet larger, in fact — a few blocks east of Division Street, one of Spokane’s busiest north-south routes. Owner Scott O’Neil took the lead in transforming a former medical supply outlet into a spacious showroom with high ceilings, bright windows and a warm, welcoming vibe. The new space includes a sizeable backroom storage area to make sure The Green Nugget remains truthful when it claims to have the region’s largest inventory and showroom – about 3,000 products from more than 170 vendors, at last count. The expanded space never feels crowded or cramped.
Some retailers go out of their way to create a superior shopping experience by making sure all budtenders spend time with every customer, especially newcomers who aren’t sure what they want or need. “If you want this level of service, we’ll give it to you — our people can talk with you about cannabis for hours,” says Store Manager Megan Roberts. “But if you want to get in, get out and know what you’re coming for, we’re happy to let you do that too.” Hence The Green Nugget’s easy options for on-the-go shoppers, including an express line and an electronic ordering kiosk.
The Green Nugget also offers a different take on vendor days. Rather than just in-store parties and promotions, the store’s staff asks its producer and processor partners to focus on education when they visit. A typical week at the store has four to five vendor days, a number which will increase this summer. Marketing Director Martina Graves says these events are a great way to connect with consumers and let them know about useful products. “It’s more than just them selling — it’s a fun meet and greet,” she said. For instance, Sunday Wellness Days include a focus on how cannabis can help health conditions, combined with sales of CBD products. Vendors may offer deeper discounts on these days as well.
