Urbn Leaf Southwest – San Diego, CA
When what is now Urbn Leaf Southwest opened in 2015 under the name Southwest Patient Group, it was only the third licensed dispensary in San Diego proper. In December of 2018, it was announced that they would merge with popular dispensary Urbn Leaf, and loyal SPG customers had questions about what the future would hold. Alex Scherer, co-owner of Urbn Leaf Southwest and founder and president of the original Southwest Patient Group, is confident that the two businesses will “dramatically improve” pricing and customer experience at both locations by joining forces. Now united under the Urbn Leaf banner, the business can buy product in greater bulk and pass those savings on to customers. They’ve also synthesized a more sophisticated training regimen for their staff by handpicking the most effective parts of each store’s programs.
Urbn Leaf’s flagship location in Bay Park excels in presentation. With renovations planned at Southwest, Scherer says customers will soon enjoy a similar “earthy-type, modern vibe,” featuring wood grain and greenery. They will also be adding seating to the exterior of the building to encourage socializing, as well as more point-of-sale stations inside.
While they currently rely mostly on third-party vendors to stock their shelves, Urbn Leaf operates two cultivation and manufacturing sites, with plans to expand. Urbn Leaf Southwest prioritizes quality over quantity, but if you’ve ever visited, you’ll know that they have both in spades. “It’s about providing the best product in the world,” posits Scherer.
